Swedish Massage Vs. Deep Tissue. Which Should You Choose?

Renika Francis • June 3, 2021

Which massage between Swedish and Deep Tissue is right for you?  This is going to be a relatively short blog post.  The type of massage you choose should be based on your goals,  as well as preferences. This article will help provide more clarity to help you in making a more informed and suitable decision for you.

Typically if you are new to massage or want a service that will help you  feel relaxed, more energized, ease your stresses and release existing tensions within the body, Swedish massage will be the best option for you. Keep in mind that this massage uses firm, but light to medium pressure .

Deep Tissue is great for treating overworked muscles that lead to cramps, soreness and spasms and treating chronic muscular pain. Dealing with these issues requires work in the deeper structures  of the muscles and will require a lot more pressure (suitable for your comfort of course). Deep Tissue massage does not have to be uncomfortably painful contrary to popular belief. Often times with this massage, elbows and forearms will be used.

So based on the above information, which shall you choose? Let me make it a little simpler for you. If you are sensitive to pressure, deep tissue will not be the best option for you and Swedish would be more appropriate. Another thing to be aware of is, scheduling a Swedish Massage when in fact you like massages with a lot of pressure will only leave you disappointed! While the same massages will utilize similar strokes in some instances, they are not the same. So do not confuse the two! It is important to be informed in order to choose the right option for you! I hope this article was able to bring more clarity in what will ultimately be the best choice between both massage modalities.
