How Long Does My Hair Need To Be To Get Sugared?

Renika Francis • May 30, 2021

The length your hair should be is dependent on the timing you are getting sugared. If you are a first timer to sugaring, your hair should be at least the length of a grain of rice. The reason for not necessarily having the hair shorter before getting sugared for the first time is because sometimes hairs that have never been sugared before can be tougher to extract due to congestion of the skin from dead skin build-up and the follicle walls being intact.

If you are a seasoned sugar-babe, hair as short as 1mm-2mm can be extracted! Take out your rulers and measure that yourself and see how amazingly short that is. Hair this short is much easier to sugar on persons who have been sugaring consistently due to the fact that more than likely they would have been exfoliating and caring for their skin and the follicles would have become weaker with each service. Those who suffer from hormonal hair on the face should definitely see this as a blessing. You don’t have to deal with the pain of letting your hair grow out and becoming obvious. For the ones who hate having hair on their body, well this is also good news for you as you do not need to be bushy before getting sugared. Keep in mind that if you have been sugaring, your hair will grow back sparsely too, so not only can you sugar when your hair is really short but you can do it before being fully grown out!

In general, lengths as short as 1mm-2mm are typically ideal for smaller areas such as the bikini, underarms and face as shorter lengths take a longer time to get extracted. For hair on larger areas such as the legs and arms, 4mm-5mm is the minimum length to be sugared preferably as larger areas naturally take more time and having really short hair will further extend the service. This is not to say that short hairs cannot be sugared from larger areas or if it is your first time sugaring. I have managed to literally remove shaved hair from the legs which was about 2mm long and see great results in the first treatment. However, regardless of the area that needs hair removed, or whether you are a first timer or not, if the hair is longer, that will be quite fine as well.

Sugaring is quite capable of removing really short hairs as opposed to waxing. This is another factor which makes this method of hair removal quite remarkable.
